Are You Feeling Depressed? Sleep Hygiene May Be the Answer.

Getting enough sleep is important for mental health, but sometimes we forget how closely these two are connected.

Research consistently underscores the profound impact that sleep—or lack thereof—can have on our mental well-being.

According to the 2023 Sleep in America®️ Poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, more than 50% of Americans who sleep less than 7 hours per night "experience mild or greater levels of depressive symptoms." Insufficient sleep causes stress, anxiety, and irritability. The new research published in the journal Cortex states that sleep plays a pivotal role in regulating mood and emotional resilience.

Prioritizing good sleep is crucial because it is the cornerstone for all aspects of our lives. From our physical health to mental well-being, adequate sleep provides the foundation for optimal functioning. What's more, it makes us live longer. The study, published in the journal Sleep, revealed that good sleep hygiene was associated with a significant decrease in premature death rates.

Sleep enhances our ability to concentrate, make reasonable decisions, and manage daily challenges. Making sleep a priority is fundamental to achieving a healthier and more balanced life.
